Oslo City x Podium Summer Residency 2023

The artists Ilavenil Vasuky Jayapalan, Julian Orlin Espe, Mikkel Vestad, Leon Lindgren, Lova Hiselius, and Laura Polanska have through an open call been selected as the participants for Podium’s summer residency. Over the month of July, the artists work together under the guidance of the curatorial platform Oslo City towards a collective exhibition on view at BO from July 27 to July 30. The exhibition was curated by Hedda Grevle Ottesen and Ida Charlotte Nilsen.

Based at the artist-run gallery Podium, Oslo City embraces interdisciplinary and interactive art projects. The main goal is to provide Oslo’s citizens with insights into the political thoughts, practices and ideas shaping the young art scene in Oslo and to foster collaborations across various micro environments in the City.

Since 2020, Oslo City has collaborated with publications such as Gateavisa and Witchmag and with platforms such as UKS (young artists society), STRUKTURA, ERGI, Prosjektskolen and Bunny’s Garage. Many associate the name Oslo City with the shopping center at Jernbanetorget, which connects the city center and serves as an overwhelming yet necessary passage for those traveling in and out of the city using public transportation. It is a capitalist symbol and an identity marker that can evoke a sense of security and dislike simultaneously.

Oslo City is an initiative launched in 2020 by Hedda Grevle Ottesen in collaboration with BOA (Visual Artists in Oslo and Akershus). Curator Ida Charlotte Nilsen joined the project in the summer of 2022.
